At the invitation of my neighbor, I attended a “Awakening the Dreamer” symposium last night in a private home. Their mission is “to bring forth an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling and socially just human presence on the planet”. It’s a multi-cultural love in that makes indigenous cultures the source of what wisdom is left in this world. I may have to blog several times to communicate my thoughts on the experience. For now, I’ll simply share this: THE EARTH IS NOT MY MOTHER! My mom lives in Jacksonville, Florida and is a wonderful person. As for this groaning globe we’re stuck on, it’s destined for destruction. When that day comes, all the efforts of the green movement will be to no avail.
Here’s what I think. I think the planet was made for us and not us for the planet. I also think God did an absolutely incredible job designing such an incredibly beautiful place for us to live. I further believe that we should be good stewards of our resources and maybe even recycle. But I positively refuse to claim earth as my mother. For me, the Father-God option is much better than Mother-Earth.
